Detailed comparison
Demand Signal
Public forum threads show that people do not only need a cropper; they need confidence about Instagram's specific crop behavior. That supports a dedicated page over a generic crop tool.
- Users discuss composing with 4:5 in mind.
- Users report the need to keep text and subjects centered.
Product Positioning
The comparison should describe TextFaker as a preflight checker with export, not as a general image editor. That makes the value easier to understand against general croppers.
- Preview first.
- Numbers second.
- Download third.
Implementation Notes
The tool can share code with existing crop, resize, and image-size checker utilities if the repository already has local image helpers.
- Reuse file validation patterns.
- Reuse canvas export helpers if present.
- Add Instagram-specific constants in one place.
Testing Path
The core tests should verify that the same image always produces the same crop metrics and output file dimensions.
- Assert displayed aspect ratio equals 0.8 for output.
- Assert output image decodes to selected dimensions.
- Assert unsupported files show a stable validation error.
Research notes
- Img2Go is an adjacent competitor because it supports cropping with social presets, but it is not solely focused on Instagram feed crop preview.
- TextFaker can win with specialization, local processing, and exact data.
- The comparison should avoid overstating Instagram behavior beyond sourced aspect-ratio guidance.
